Black Stars thriumph over Madagascar

After cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Barea of Madagascar on Wednesday at Cape Coast Sports, the Black Stars got off to a strong start in their qualifying campaign for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars, who are aiming to make their 24th appearance at the continental football championship, got off to a promising start thanks to three goals scored by Mohammed Kudus, Felix Afena Gyan, and Osman Bukari in the second half of their match.

The Black Stars have three points, which puts them ahead of Angola in Group E’s standings. Angola defeated the Central African Republic by a score of 2-1 earlier in the day in the other matchup for the group.

The Black Stars got off to a strong start in the first half, as they mounted persistent pressure on the Barea in the hopes of scoring the game’s opening goal.

The Black Stars had 14 shots on goal during the first half, but only two of those shots were on target due to the staunch defense displayed by the Barea of Madagascar.

Kudus put Ghana ahead with a goal from close range in the 54th minute after Afena Gyan had done some good work on the flanks to set up the opportunity. Ghana started the second half on the offensive and deservedly took the lead.

Afena Gyan scored his first goal for Ghana’s national team in the 56th minute with a close-range shot that provided the Black Stars with the cushion goal.

Kudos Mohammed believed that he had scored his second goal of the game in the 67th minute, after a wonderful cross by Baba Rahman; however, the Assistant Referee ruled that he was slightly offside. Baba Rahman provided the assist on the play.

Even though they were up by two goals, the Black Stars did not appear to be satisfied as they continued to press for a third goal, with Kudos Mohammed going close to scoring it in the 72nd minute.

After coming on as a substitute, Osman Bukari scored the third goal for the Black Stars with just five minutes remaining in the match. His goal was a composed strike that ensured an emphatic victory for the home team.

In the second match of their group for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier, the Black Stars would play the Central African Republic in exactly four days.
