NPP promises ‘free and fair’ presidential primary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) promises that the future primaries it will hold to choose candidates for the general elections of 2024 will be impartial.

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to holding “open and fair” primaries, notably the one to choose its next flagbearer.

For the first time in 15 years, the party will present a fresh face for the presidency.

The oddsmakers had Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as the favorites, raising concerns about the stakes.

Some of the executives chosen during the National Annual Delegates’ Conference held at the Accra Sports Stadium last month have already come under fire for allegedly supporting one side or the other.

On Friday, July 29, Mr. Kodua Frimpong reassured the party’s rank and file that the primaries will be free and fair while speaking at the party’s 30th anniversary Muslim prayers.

The former Executive Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) said, “Let me reiterate it here that the national party will bring forth a free and fair elections when it gets to the presidential primaries and I have said on several platforms that as General Secretary of the party, I will be impartial and I will not take sides in the presidential primaries.”

As a result, we implore all national, regional, and constituency officers to abide by that request. The primary elections will take place the following year.
