Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the late Vice President’s wife, was laid to rest alongside her husband at their private property in Kalpohin in the Sagmarigu Municipality of the Northern Region on Thursday.
Hajia Ramatu Mahama is alleged to have died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital following a brief illness.

Prior to her funeral, family members, friends, and sympathisers met at the Tamale Airport to transport her remains to Jubilee Park, where she was later relocated to a private residence for burial.
Mourners came from far and wide to pay their respects to the woman whom many referred to as a mother to everyone.

At the graveside, prayers were also delivered, which were witnessed by a few close relatives and the Vice President.
Farouk Aliu Mahama, the deceased’s son and Yendi MP, spoke to the media after the funeral and hailed his late mother as an angel sent by God for many.
“My mother was more than just my mother; she was a mother to everyone; she was an angel sent into this earth to serve.”
“She has worked selflessly for people her entire life, imparting information and being religious,” he said.
Dr Mohamed Amin Adam, the Member of Parliament for Karaga, Nashiru Issahaku, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and Alhassan Andani, the Chief of Pishegu, all took turns to pay tribute to the late woman.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife Samira Bawumia, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Defence Minister Dominic Ntiwul, Deputy Transport Minister Hassan Tampuli, and Ibrahim Mahama were among the dignitaries that attended the burial service.
