Rapper Sarkodie has claimed that he refused to join the group of artists who joined Zylofon Music at the company’s inception because he placed the music business above his own interests.
Stars like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Kumi Guitar, Joyce Blessing, Becca, and others joined the label run by NAM 1, or Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO, in 2017.
Sarkodie, however, declined to join NAM 1’s alliance of top musicians.
Sarkodie recently opened up about the specifics of the contract with NAM 1 and explained why he rejected it during a chat on Big Vibes.
He clarified that NAM 1’s offer was made solely for his advantage, as opposed to the fact that he wanted other artists to have access to his wealth in order to improve the state of the music business.
“I told NAM 1 he wasn’t interested in me alone because he was more interested in Sarkodie. I can’t criticize him because every businessman considers potential customers.
“I haven’t been concerned with what Sarkodie can do for himself for a very long time. I sincerely hope the Ghanaian industry survives, the man declared.
“That was the exchange I had with NAM 1,” Therefore, I took the stance that if the guy gets the bread, there are already many artists in the system. We only need to package them and push them firmly. We would put on a significant show in America if we had money.
